On my TV, there are 5 levels of Motion smoothening, the max level just plain sucks for movies, since there are so many artifacts and inconsistencies popping up, but if i put it at 2 and use SVP4, it looks great, to me.Prior to posting any submission to this subreddit please ensure you've read the rules for submissions in the sidebar of the /r/bravia homepage. Better to turn off Motion Smoothening on TV's since they're implementation isn't that great for movies, but if you use something like SVP4, it can be better. So, my point is, motion smoothening is subjective. She moves extremely fast, and in normal 24fps, she skips the frames and you miss her a bit, but when I use SVP4 and watch it at 48fps or 60fps, even if she is interpolated, it looks great to me.Įspecially this particular scene, watch it at 1080p60 on youtube and then watch it at 480p(probably 24fps), I love how after Nam-Ek drags Superman through the road, and you can see Faora run to Superman and try and kick him. Especially the fight between Superman and Faora/Nam-Ek. Watching MoS and BvS in smooth motion looks amazing to me. It isn't perfect since the source video needs to be off high quality, but I love it. I also use SVP4, which also reduces those inconsistencies while delivering a smooth frame rate. I like the smooth framerate and don't mind the small inconsistencies. Well, this is for people who don't like the smooth motion. Do turn it ON while watching sports however since that's where this setting shines. ![]() Unless of course you want that feeling where it feels like you're the one filming it on your camcorder. TL DR: Turn off motion smoothing or any sort of blur/judder reduction effects (google how to do it for your TV) while watching ZSJL or any other upcoming movie. Here's a couple examples showing the difference between motion smoothing ON vs OFF:Īnd here's Tom Cruise and Chris McQuarrie explaining why motion smoothing should be turned off while watching movies at home (Ever wondered why movies and shows don't feel the same?) This is what gives you that cinematic look and sets it apart from TV shows. It can also cause some weird artifacts and edges when the artificial frames don't blend correctly.Ī movie is typically shot and presented at 24fps with all the effects and camera movements specifically tailored around this framerate. This setting, when kept ON, will try to add artificial frames in between the real ones to try and boost the framerate to something that's closer to your display's refresh rate (typically 60hz) and try to get rid of motion blur that is common in movies. If you felt that the leaked clips looked like a low budget TV show and the movements on screen felt TOO real, this is very likely the reason. And a lot of it was down to this feature called 'Motion Smoothing' (aka Motion Interpolation / Soap Opera effect / Sports mode). I had the misfortune to watch one of the leaked clips of ZSJL and one thing that immediately stuck out to me was how awful the posters' display settings were.
